SWITZERLAND [NEWS SERVICE] ⋅ With two petitions, the SVP and the young bourgeois parties are calling for the corona measures to be relaxed. A total of almost 300,000 signatures were collected.
(agl) In the past few days, calls for the corona measures to be relaxed have become louder. At the weekend, for example, the trade associations presented an exit plan with four phases. The SVP and the young bourgeois parties go one step further with their petition “Lockdown Stop”, which they handed over to the Federal Chancellery on Monday. It calls for the immediate opening of shops, restaurants, bars, sports and leisure facilities. According to the petition website, almost 250,000 people have signed since mid-January, significantly exceeding the collection target of 100,000 signatures.
“The constant extension of this harmful corona policy must stop now,” SVP President Marco Chiesa was quoted in a statement on Monday. From March 1st, the population should be able to live reasonably normally again. The petition was originally launched by two young liberals from the canton of Zurich on the “Schwiiz Brandaktuell” platform. They criticized the measures in the fight against the coronavirus as too excessive.
In addition to “Lockdown Stop”, the SVP submitted a second petition on Monday entitled “Beizen für Büezer”. It demands that restaurants are allowed to open to professionals who work outside even during the lockdown. These should be able to spend their lunchtime in the warmth, where infrastructure such as toilets are also available. The petition has been signed around 50,000 times since it was launched on January 25, according to the SVP.
