That rarely happens. The SVP parliamentary group abstained from voting on its own motion on Friday. The day before, this had been declared urgent by Parliament. However, it had become superfluous after Parliament had already increased the loan for the temporary renovation of the BWZ vocational and further training center in Sarnen by CHF 550,000 on Thursday in order to finance a photovoltaic system on the roof.
Parliament had already shown unity on the matter on Thursday. Everyone wanted the photovoltaic system, the only question was what would be the quickest way to implement it. Parliament decided to simply increase the credit, it would be quicker. The SVP, on the other hand, wanted to issue an official order to the government via a motion.
“In every defeat there is the seed of success,” said motion agent Albert Sigrist (SVP, Giswil) on Friday, who was unsuccessful at his last meeting. But that’s not so bad. However, he warned Parliament that it had now opened a keg that it could hardly close because it had talked money without issuing a specific order. “We’ll see how that goes in the future.” Sigrist announced that the SVP would abstain from voting, which the parliamentary group then did given the lack of a chance. The motion was rejected with 37 nos and 14 abstentions.
