“We need to politicize the debate” ahead of the presidential elections, SYRIZA secretary Rania Svigou emphasized in an interview with “Real fm”, noting that “what is important now is to talk about the next day in SYRIZA- PS and not to ignore the mandate given to us by the Greek people, that of the official opposition”.
Rania Svigou noted that “at a time when the Mitsotakis government is doing everything to destroy every trace of a social state, we cannot talk about divisions and splits, especially within SYRIZA” but, on the contrary, “we must talk about unifying initiatives of cooperation of the progressive forces, as all our collective decisions say”.
The secretary of K.E. of SYRIZA-PS underlined that in the presidential elections “there will be no exclusions, but an organized process, an open democratic dialogue, where the presidential candidates will present their political program, their platform for today and tomorrow of the party”.
“All candidates will work for the mass nature of the process”
He noted that the Central Committee “set some specific formal conditions, regardless of nominations, as it had done last year”, adding that “it will obviously be a process in which all those who fulfill them will participate”.
She underlined her belief that “all the candidates will work for the mass character of the process, which will be in the context of politics and only confrontation”.
Rania Svigou added that it will be “an open, democratic and massive process”, stressing that “as it happened last year, after the departure of Alexis Tsipras, everything will be done in a completely coordinated and institutional way”.
“Very good idea to hold a debate between the candidates”
Responding to the possibility of holding a debate between the presidential candidates, he expressed the opinion that “it is a very good idea, which we can follow”, recalling that “last year there were also related discussions, but they did not succeed”.
He emphasized that he now considers it “a great need, in the context of the politicization of the debate”, adding that “this type of debate promotes public debate within and outside parties and also provides an incentive to participate in the electoral process”.
Responding to a related question, Rania Svigou underlined, finally, that she “is not going to take any position against the nominations, as she did in the previous elections”, noting that her role is “to make the institutions function in an orderly and institutional manner and the party”.
