The chairman of GERB, Boyko Borisov, welcomed the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who is visiting our country.
“From the first day of the war, the flag of Ukraine has been standing in our party headquarters. We have done everything that depends on us. I think that we are one of the countries that supported Ukraine the most – with weapons, with military equipment, with money,” said Brisov .
Tikhanovskaya, who is a former presidential candidate of Belarus, was met at GERB headquarters by GERB leader and deputy Daniel Mitov.
“It is an honor for us to see you today, to trust that we intend to make a unity for friendship. Our parliament, a group of deputies to support you, your husband and the cause you are fighting for. Welcome,” Borisov greeted her .
Tikhanovskaya left Belarus after running against longtime head of state Alexander Lukashenko in the 2020 presidential election. After the election, large protests erupted, with the opposition accusing Lukashenko of winning by fraud, which he denied. Tikhanovsky was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison in Belarus.
