SV Werder Bremen versus Hannover 96: 1: 1, 1st matchday – 2nd Bundesliga – football

First chance through Osako

Both teams fully lived up to the responsibility of being able to play a special game at a special broadcast time. Bremen started with more pressure and quickly had the first chance: The low shot from Yuya Osako to a pass from Josh Sargent after eight minutes, however, steered 96-returnee Ron-Robert Zieler around the post.

Hanover then worked its way into the game better and better through a passionate duel. A massive header from Marvin Ducksch just missed the target, then Florent Muslija let it crash properly: From a good 20 meters he pulled with the full span and hit the crossbar – Michael Zetterer in the goal of the hosts would have had no chance (26th).

Bremen defensive too passive

The scene served as an encouragement in 96, Bremen was too passive in defensive behavior in this phase and ultimately well served with going into the break without conceding a goal. Werder coach Markus Anfang had a tactical formation called 4-1-4-1, Florian Eggestein could not close all the gaps as the only six.

At the second half the Werderans remembered what made them strong at the beginning of the game. Immediately after one minute, Niklas Schmidt narrowly missed the second post, then Osako failed against Zieler.

Earth vor Falette am Ball

The resulting corner brought the reward for this attack: Ömer Toprak screwed himself into the air at the short pentagon, prevailed in a header duel against Simon Falette, who also touched the ball – the hit was counted as an own goal (49th).

Hanover promptly responded. A strong attack on Sei Muroya landed at Ducksch, who failed from 14 meters on the left post. Only two minutes later, this combination brought the balance: Muroya played a dream pass behind the Bremer chain, Ducksch broke away perfectly and lifted the ball in goal-of-the-month manner soulfully over Zetterer (55th).

Bremen is running out of breath

In the first last half hour the balance of power then shifted further and further in the direction of Hanover. Bremen rarely play in an orderly fashion, and especially in the final stages, 96 had one top chance after the other. Linton Maina, but above all Ducksch, whom Bremen could no longer control, could have made it 2-1 – actually even should.

After the final whistle, there were disappointed expressions on both sides. The hosts even received whistles from parts of their supporters, Hanover mourned the missed three points despite a very strong performance.

The next top game for Werder

Bremen have the honor of playing this top game again next Saturday (July 31st, 21st), then they’ll play at Fortuna Düsseldorf. The Hanoverians have Hansa Rostock as a guest on the same day at 1.30 p.m.
