SV Wehen Wiesbaden secures promotion to 2nd Bundesliga with win over Arminia Bielefeld

SV Wehen Wiesbaden is back in the 2nd Bundesliga after three years. The Hessians also won the second leg in the relegation on Tuesday evening and thus ensured that Arminia Bielefeld experienced the second relegation in a row. The match winner for the Kauczinski team was Hollerbach, who almost single-handedly turned the game around after an early lead by East Westphalia with two goals.

Hollerbach puts together a double pack

After the severe humiliation in Wiesbaden, Koschinat saw an urgent need for action and changed the Arminen starting XI to five positions. So began Hüsing, Bello, Kanuric, Consbruch and Klos instead of Gebauer, Oczipka, Prietl, Rzatkowski and Serra. His opponent Kauczinski, on the other hand, did not make any substitutions and sent the same eleven onto the field as in the first leg.

For the Bielefeld side – greeted with whistles from their own supporters while warming up – it was primarily about making amends, staying up in the league seemed hardly feasible due to the 4-0 deficit. In fact, the DSC got off to a really good start. After a wide ball from Fraisl, Lasme headed the ball across to Klos, whose perfectly hit direct ball rolled over the goal line under Wiesbaden goalkeeper Stritzel to make it 1-0 for Bielefeld (4th). The hope was back on the Alm, especially since the Arminia followed immediately. With two good opportunities, Hüsing headed wide of the goal (17th) and once on the crossbar (27th). Stritzel also made a fantastic save from a Consbruch header (28′).

At this point, the guests were already swimming vigorously, but were suddenly rebuilt by the negligent defense of Bielefeld. In a Wiesbaden liberation, Andrade jumped under the ball, which is why Prtajin Hollerbach was able to stage. The 22-year-old ran alone towards Fraisl and scored through his legs to make it 1-1 (35′). A real killer of the mood, which even Klos could not revive. The captain was denied by a Stritzel save before Consbruch headed the ball past the half-empty goal on the left (41′). It should have been 2-1 for the home side, who instead went into the break from a deficit. And again Hollerbach scored, who first dribbled around jaekel and hack and was lucky at the end that Hüsing deflected the ball to make it 1:2 (45+2).

Bielefeld is not coming back

Koschinat reacted at half-time by taking Jäkel and Vasiliadis off the field and bringing in Sidler and the only 16-year-old Koch. Initially, however, he did not achieve any major effects. Once again, Hollerbach set off instead, could not be stopped by Andrade and finally found his master in Fraisl, who steered the shot from a tight angle with his fingertips to the corner around the post (50th). Bielefeld, on the other hand, was only threatened by two long-range shots from Sidler (52nd and 62nd). Otherwise, the game was just splashing along because Bielefeld lacked any penetration and Wiesbaden didn’t want to do anything anymore.

Only twenty minutes before the end there was some movement again when Fechner blocked for his goalkeeper first against Klos and then against Hüsing (69th). On the other hand, Froese, who had been substituted before, flicked a ball just over the Bielefeld box (72′). At the latest when Koschinat took Klos out of the encounter to the applause of the supporters, the East Westphalians had surrendered to their fate (81st).

After three years in the 3rd division, SV Wehen Wiesbaden is back in the lower house of football and throws DSC Arminia Bielefeld into the valley of tears. A year ago, the East Westphalians were still playing in the Bundesliga, but now they have to make the bitter transition to third division. You last found yourself there in the 2014/15 season. The only remaining player from back then: Captain Fabian Klos.
