Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – Oberliga football club SV Oberachern is looking forward to the Baden duel with SC Freiburg in the first round of the DFB Cup. “It’s definitely the most special of all cup games,” said sporting director Mark Lerandy before the game against the Bundesliga club on Sunday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) of the German Press Agency. “SC is the top club in the region. In addition, some of our lads have a Freiburg past. It’s full circle for me, too.”
Lerandy once played under the current professional coach of Freiburg, Christian Streich, in the youth of the SC. “We’ve seen each other a few times since then. He remembers the guys he used to coach. I appreciate that about him,” said the 41-year-old. Oberachern’s captain Nicola Leberer also played for the sports club’s second team.
The fifth division team was in the DFB Cup last season and lost 9-1 to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first round. As in the past, the game will be played this year in Freiburg’s Dreisam Stadium, which was the SC’s home for decades. “In terms of how we’re dealing with all the hustle and media around it, we’re definitely a step further than we were a year ago,” said Lerandy.
“But Freiburg is another house number. The stadium will be completely full this time. In addition, the SC has been playing extremely consistently for the past two years,” said the SVO sports director. Nevertheless, his team wanted to have fun and “keep things exciting for as long as possible,” said Lerandy. “We won’t sell our values and we won’t put ourselves behind. We want to attack here and there.”
