SUZUME is the story of the growing 17 year old protagonist Suzume. The action takes place in various disaster areas in Japan, where Suzume has to close doors that are causing devastation. Suzume’s story begins in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwestern Japan) when she meets a young man who says to her, “I’m looking for a door.” Suzume does find a single, weather-beaten door in the middle of a ruin, as if it had escaped every cataclysm. Drawn by the power of the door, Suzume reaches out toward the doorknob… Across Japan, one door after another opens, unleashing destruction all around. Suzume must close these portals to prevent even greater harm. Never-before-seen landscapes, encounters and farewells… Countless challenges await Suzume along the way. Despite all the obstacles, Suzume’s adventure casts a ray of hope in our own struggle against the worst fears and constraints of everyday life.
