Suzuki Vitara and Jeep Grand Cherokee suspected

The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Suzuki Vitara have broken EU emissions regulations. The Dutch authorities have now determined this and obliged the manufacturers to remedy the situation. Otherwise there will be a ban on sales across Europe. That reports now Automotive News Europe,

Forbidden measures were used in the two SUV models, which resulted in them emitting more nitrogen oxides (NOx) on the road than under test conditions. Jeep has already developed a software update for the Grand Cherokee and will recall the model across Europe, according to the Dutch authority. Suzuki, however, have not yet found a solution for the Vitara (our picture).

Just a few days ago, the German authorities raided Mitsubishi, as the mirror reported. The reason was also suspected of illegal shutdown devices (so-called Defeat devices) in diesel models of the brand. Specifically, it was about 1.6 and 2.2 liter diesel with certification according to the emission standards Euro 5 and 6. The business premises of two suppliers were also searched, including Continental.

Even Daimler has not yet gotten over the cheat scandal. The carmaker anticipates new penalties and recall costs in the amount of 1.1 to 1.5 billion euros, such as Tagesschau.de reported a few days ago.

The diesel affair continues with the new suspected cases. It had started in the fall of 2015. At that time, the VW group had admitted to using illegal shutdown devices for diesel models in the USA. As part of the legal process of the scandal, VW has already paid fines of around 30 billion euros. And that’s not the end: For the fraud against Canadian car buyers, the group has just been obliged to pay another 136 million euros, as reported by FAZ.net.
