After leaving the MotoGP world championship, the Suzuki brand decided to invest every resource in the automotive sector, in the electric sector and in a new motorcycle range. One of the most requested models “expands” and becomes a family version.
In a short time it has become an icon of modern times. Many had set their sights on the baby off-road vehicle Hamamatsu house and many have not been able to get it due to import restrictions due to emissions regulations. Also in Italy it had been requested by many, but the Rising Sun brand was unable to satisfy many of the requests, which is why it was decided to focus attention above all on the electricity sector and aimed at ecological sustainability in step with the times and with motor/environmental laws.
The Suzuki Jimny it had garnered much acclaim, but many failed to get it. However, new hopes are ignited among its customers, after some spy photos from India have circulated on the web, showing the new 5-door version which will be officially presented atCar Expo of January 2023. According to unconfirmed rumors, it could be called Jimny Long, due to the elongated dimensions compared to the previous three-door edition. The new look of the off-road baby suggests a length of 385 cm, therefore 30 more, while width and ground clearance could remain unchanged.
Suzuki’s off-road baby becomes 5-door
Some foreign sources speculate that the new Suzuki Jimny could also be offered in version to 7 seatswith three rows of seats. But it remains to be seen whether this solution will also be offered to European customers, since the interior space would be too small for Western tastes. In the passenger compartment, the space between the first and second row of seats and the capacity of the trunk will increase. Inside, a new infotainment with a 9-inch center dashboard screen inherited from other models of the Japanese brand should take possession.
After the presentation on January 13 at the Auto Expo in India, the Suzuki Jimny will debut in Japan by the end of the year, while there are still no official confirmations on a possible arrival in Europe. But the news will not only concern the bodywork, but also the engine range. In the range of the new Jimny, we can hypothesize a full hybrid powertrain with a 1.5-liter petrol engine capable of providing 130 HP. For the European market, the four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology could be envisaged. Confirmed the four-wheel drive AllGrip Pro 4WD in combination with a five-speed manual gearbox, which should be joined by an automatic transmission as an option.
In Japan the price it could be around 2.3 million yen, equal to about 16,000 euros. In the coming weeks, Suzuki could dispel any doubts and announce whether the five-door Jomny will also be available in Europe.
