The expected becomes a reality. The Suzuki Jimny will continue to be sold in European markets, but in the form of a utility model.

Suzuki Jimny has become a hit in the current generation. In addition to its field skills, the practical box also attracted new clients with its style, which resulted in the fact that demand far exceeded supply. Nevertheless, the carmaker had to stop Jimna’s imports to Europe due to strict emission standards. But now Jimny is returning to the old continent.
The car was damaged by standardized emissions, which disproportionately increased the fleet emissions of the brand’s entire offer. In combination with the five-step manual, they were 154 g CO according to the NEDC methodology2/ km, while with a four-stage automatic even 170 g CO2 per kilometer, which is simply much more than the limit defined by the European Union of 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer driven.

Suzuki was unable to compensate for such numbers with more economical models, and so preferred in Europe canceled the receipt of further orders for this offroadto avoid high fines for non-compliance. Even then, however, there was speculation that Jimny might return after a while, in the form of a utility model. Light commercial vehicles are subject to less stringent emission rules. And it was this step that Suzuki really took now, when it introduced the utility version of Jimny.
This differs primarily in its interior, which is exclusively two-seater. Instead of the rear seats, there is free space, enclosed by a grille, so that the load does not get between the front seats. The result of this modification is a volume of cargo space with a value of 863 liters, which is 33 liters more than the previous personal variant.

Otherwise, everything remains the same, whether the frame construction or the assignable all-wheel drive. The existing K15B unit also remains, ie the 1.5 VVT four-cylinder petrol engine tuned to 75 kW and 130 Nm. However, the unit apparently received some adjustments, as its standardized emissions are now 138 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
However, it is not yet clear when the utility version of the Suzuki Jimny will be available on the Czech market and how much it will cost. “At the moment, we do not have any specific information on the start of sales or the number of vehicles intended for the Czech Republic,” said Dominika Baborská from the Czech representation of Suzuki. However, the car will first arrive in the Czech Republic in the spring of 2021.
