Jakarta –
The e-Burgman electric scooter continues to be road tested before being officially launched in 2024. After being tested in India, the eco-friendly scooter will be tested in its home country, Japan.
Quoted from Autoby, tests of the Suzuki e-Burgman will take place between April and June 2023 and will cover a number of areas in Japan. Just like the testing method on the Yamaha E-10 electric scooter, the e-Burgman test will also involve the general public.
In testing in India, the Suzuki e-Burgman comes with an electric motor system mounted in the middle. In addition, the e-Burgman also uses a chain drive system, which is then passed on to the rear wheels. This motorbike does not use a van belt like scooters in general.
The use of the chain drive system was touted taking into account India’s harsh traffic environment, where there are few paved highways. So, the quieter and easier to maintain, belt van belt drive systems are less suitable in India.
The production version of the Suzuki e-Burgman is said to use a swapable battery pack. While the capacity of the swappable lithium-ion battery is being kept secret, Suzuki claims the e-Burgman has a range of up to 44 km when driven at a steady speed of 60 km/h on flat roads.
The Burgman is claimed to have a peak power of 4 kW, which is on par with the TVS iQube S and Bajaj Chetak. These figures suggest that the e-Burgman will probably be more of a practical e-bike than more performance-oriented ones like the Ola S1 Pro or Ather 450X in India.
