“An Evening Of New York Songs And Stories” will be the title of the new album by the Californian singer and songwriter Suzanne Vega, which is expected on May 1st. A first single from it, an interpretation of the Lou Reed classic “Walk On The Wild Side” has already been released. In summer Vega will also come to Germany for some concerts. This article reveals what the new record is all about.

The new Suzanne Vega album doesn’t really offer any new music, but the song compilation and the live interpretations look pretty promising. “An Evening Of New York Songs And Stories” contains some songs and stories that are important for Suzanne Vega and that she associates with the metropolis on the east coast of the USA. The recordings were made in proper style at a concert she played in New York City’s Café Carlyle in early 2019. She was accompanied at the time by guitarist Gerry Leonard, who is also responsible for production, bassist Jeff Allen and keyboardist Jamie Edwards.

On the set list were Suzanne Vega hits like “Luka” or “Tom’s Diner” as well as less well-known songs like “Frank And Ava” or “Ludlow Street”, which are characterized by their depth. The first single to be released is an interpretation of the Lou Reed classic “Walk On The Wild Side” Stream is available on YouTube, among others. In addition, one or two foreign compositions were on the set list on that concert evening in New York. The club in which the concert took place has a certain legendary status: Woody Allen and his jazz band played weekly in the New York Café Carlyle.

In May and July, Suzanne Vega comes to Germany with a small band for four concerts. The dates: May 8, Berlin, Metropol – July 10, Hamburg, Mojo – July 11, Cologne, Gloria and July 15, Freiburg, ZMF.
