Suzanne Schulting injured her back during a training session in Thialf on Monday. During a fall, the three-time Olympic champion was struck by the blade of another skate.
During the incident, 26-year-old Schulting suffered injuries to her back. She was taken to hospital by ambulance for examination. It is still unknown how serious the injuries are. The KNSB reports that more information will follow later.
Schulting has not yet been on the ice in competition this year. She took a break after a “physically and mentally difficult year”. For that reason, she did her own preparation and trained a lot alone. The incident took place during a training with the National Short Track Selection (NTS).
Schulting hoped to participate in an international competition for the first time at the European Championships in Gdansk in January. The ten-time world champion then aimed to participate in the World Championships in Ahoy, where she will defend three world titles.
In addition to her ten world titles, Schulting won six medals at the Winter Olympics. Three of them were gold. She also became European champion in short track seventeen times and has regularly competed on the long track in the past.
