Eruption on Suwanosejima, volcanic plume 1,600 meters high, small amount of tephra expected to fall on the island Toshima Village, Kagoshima[01/01 16:03]

According to the meteorological observatory, an eruption occurred at Mt. Mitake on Suwanose Island in Toshima Village, Kagoshima Prefecture just after 3:00 pm today, and volcanic smoke rose to a height of 1,600 meters from the crater.

Ash will be washed away from the crater in a southwest direction, and a small amount of ash is expected to fall on the island by 9 p.m.

Suwanosejima remains under eruption alert level 2 restrictions around the crater, and the meteorological observatory has urged people to be on guard for large volcanic blocks within a radius of approximately 1 km from the crater.
