Yesterday afternoon, an SUV hit a crosswalk in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do, killing one person and injuring 11 others.
The police are weighing the possibility that the novice driver caused the accident while practicing driving.
Reporter Baek Seung-woo covered the story.
◀ Report ▶
It was around 4pm yesterday at the intersection in front of Gochon Station in Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province.
When the signal changes, vehicles stop in front of the crosswalk and people start crossing.
At this time, a white SUV suddenly drives into the middle of the crosswalk, crashes into the side of the bus, and stops.
Another CCTV showing the scene of the accident.
A vehicle at terrifying speed hits the crosswalk and crashes into a pedestrian crossing the street.
The citizen next door, who managed to escape the crisis, barely crosses the crosswalk and collapses on the ground as if in shock.
At the time, the accident vehicle passed between two vehicles that had previously stopped and collided, crossed the center line, crossed the crosswalk, and crashed into three more vehicles, including a bus.

″It got one from there and flipped it once. Then came and got it here. One, two, three, four, five cars.”
Eleven people, including the driver of the accident vehicle, a passenger and a bus passenger, were injured, and a man in his 20s who was crossing the crosswalk was taken to the hospital but died.

″It just floated up in the air, man. With a “pop” sound. 20 to 30 meters.″
Immediately after the accident, the area was very congested, and Gimpo City sent a safety notice requesting a detour.
Police said the driver of the accident, a woman in her 50s, was not under the influence of alcohol.
However, it has been less than two years since he obtained a driver’s license, and the name of both the vehicle and insurance is the husband, who was a passenger, so we are putting weight on the possibility that the accident occurred due to inexperienced driving while practicing driving.
The police plan to secure the black box of the accident vehicle and investigate the relatively lightly injured husband first to find out the details of the accident.
