“We will continue to invest sustainably in pastoral care and education,” explained Vicar General Andreas Frick. Although declining church tax revenues are forecast for the coming years, no compromises should be made when it comes to funds for pastoral tasks and educational institutions.
Revenue declining
The diocese of Aachen stretches from the northern Eifel to the Lower Rhine. It has a good 935,000 Catholics in 326 parishes.
According to the information, the majority of income in 2022 comes from church taxes at 279.8 million euros. That is 8.7 million euros less than in the previous year. Almost all of it went into pastoral care, education and Caritas. For 2024, the diocese expects church tax revenue of 275 million euros.
Funds planned
It was said that 15 million euros of the annual surplus will be made available for maintenance and investments in the Episcopal schools over the next three years. A further five million euros are earmarked for energy-saving measures in buildings. Parishes, Catholic associations and Caritas would be supported with 3 million euros in the current month of November in order to cushion increased personnel costs.
