Sustainable fashion in practice. These are the goals of the CCC Group

Leather reduction in footwear production and activities related to product circularity are one of the key KPIs regarding sustainable development in the CCC Group – says Kamilla Budnik, Head of Sustainability, CCC Group.

  • What does reporting in accordance with the CSRD directive look like at the CCC footwear company?
  • What does sustainable fashion involve in practice? How to plan waste management in the footwear industry?
  • How to limit the use of leather in the footwear sector?
  • Kamilla Budnik, Head of Sustainability, CCC Group, talked about this at the PRECOP conference.

Over the last two years, the clothing industry has been in a difficult macroeconomic situation, struggling with high inflation, which affected consumers’ purchasing decisions. Nevertheless, clothing companies, like all others, had to start implementing environmental protection policies. The CSRD Sustainability Reporting Directive requires companies to report annually. It is recommended that companies include ESG aspects as part of their business strategy and plans and disclose information on climate risk and related indicators (Key Performance Indicators – KPIs).

Reporting under the CSRD is based on concrete actions, not just theory. There have been significant changes in the CCC Group, especially since we started applying for green financing based on ESG criteria. This financing became a fact in July this year, he says Kamilla BudnikHead of Sustainability, Grupa CCC.

– While working on KPIs, we noticed how high the expectations are for our industry in the context of corporate financing. So we had to set ambitious goals regarding energy efficiency and circularity to obtain such financing, he adds.

Key KPIs regarding sustainable development at CCC

Kamilla Budnik describes that as part of the preparations, CCC developed internal KPIs, planned activities and developed a strategy that will allow the company to achieve its goals in the near future. – We focused mainly on our products, especially on the raw materials used in production. Leather, although associated with high quality in the footwear industry, generates the largest CO2 emissions. Our challenge is to limit its use through an appropriate product strategy and to find ecological substitutes that will be both low-emission and environmentally friendly – he explains.

As he says, introducing such changes is not easy, especially in the context of the tradition of wearing leather shoes.

We need to carefully analyze our supply chain, how we source materials, and gather a lot of information to meet these challenges. One of our key KPIs concerns the reduction of leather in shoe production – he explains.

Circularity in CCC. “We need innovative solutions”

He emphasizes that another important KPI related to financing is circularity – how the company manages the footwear collected from customers.

– Currently, we cooperate with various entities in many markets that purchase footwear from us. However, we realize that we need innovative solutions that will allow us to effectively use these products in our activities, he explains.

– The last two years were a key stage of preparation, and the next two years will be even more intensive to meet the challenges that lie ahead of us – sums up Kamilla Budnik.
