Morocco and Senegal signed, on Monday in Rabat, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral relations in the areas of sustainable development and energy transition.
Initialed by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and the Senegalese Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition, Daouda Ngom, this memorandum of understanding focuses mainly on the exchange of experiences, the transfer of knowledge, technical assistance and the development of joint projects in the various areas recognized as being of particular importance to both parties, in particular the governance of sustainable development, climate change, sustainable waste management and the development of the circular economy.
It is also part of the ongoing consultation and coordination between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal and will provide new impetus to strategic cooperation projects in the areas of the environment and ecological transition.
On this occasion, Ms. Benali indicated, in a statement to the press, that this partnership embodies the solid relations uniting the two brotherly countries, Morocco and Senegal, adding that the memorandum focuses in particular on environmental governance and the circular economy.
For his part, Mr. Ngom highlighted the fraternal and secular relations uniting Morocco and Senegal, noting that the agreement signed in the areas of energy transition and sustainable development will allow the two parties to work on several aspects related in particular to environmental governance, the fight against climate change and the preservation of biodiversity.
He also said that a joint action plan will emerge from this MoU for the implementation of all points of the agreement, noting that the two countries will continue to work together for cooperation in the framework of environmental negotiations at the international level.
Furthermore, the Senegalese minister, and the high-level delegation accompanying him, will visit the “REUSE” wastewater reuse plant in Salé and the Koudia El Beida wind farm in Tangier, in order to inquire about Morocco’s achievements in environmental protection, sustainable development and renewable energy.
