Energean has published its 5th Annual Sustainability Report which refers to 2022 and presents its strategy, initiatives and performance with a focus on the tripartite ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) as guide to Sustainable Development.
The exhibition is entitled “We secure energy, we support societies, we guarantee the transition” while in their joint message that they published on the occasion of the publication of the Report, the President of the Energean group, Karen Simon, and the CEO of the Energean group, Mathios Rigas, mention, among others, the following:
“Environment, Society, Corporate Governance and Sustainable Development are at the heart of Energean’s ETHICS and our business model. Our commitment does not come from a good business practice, but from our belief that this is the right way to run a business.
We are committed to being the best Energean we can be! This means being a responsible energy producer, committed to ESG criteria, providing local communities with secured, reliable and affordable energy that will drive Sustainable Development.”
In the Exhibition, the dominant position is Energean’s Climate Plan essentially consists of the following axes:
-Optimization of environmental performance in all assets.
-Increasing the participation of natural gas in the portfolio.
-Natural Solutions for Reducing the Environmental Footprint (afforestation, reforestation, etc.).
-Capture and storage of CO2.
-Production of pure hydrogen.
Energean’s main achievements for 2022 are summarized as follows:
- The reduction of carbon intensity compared to the reference year (2019), reached 76.6% and 12.7% on an annual basis.
- Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions from the company’s infrastructure) and Scope 2 emissions (emissions from the electricity supplied by the company) decreased by 12.5% year-on-year.
- The participation of natural gas in the company’s portfolio reached 76.3% compared to 73.5% in the previous year.
- The non-renewable energy consumed during the year decreased by 24.2%.
- Both recycled waste and water recycled and reused increased by almost 100%.
- There was no hydrocarbon spill or environmental damage.
- The emissions of all assets managed by Energean were certified according to ISO 14064-1.
- All the company’s assets were certified according to the Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001.
- A Committee was created specifically for the Environment, Safety and Corporate Responsibility that focuses on Climate Change issues and ESG criteria.
- Zero work-related illnesses were recorded.
- Energean performed for its employees and contractors. almost 14,000 hours of training related to Health and Safety.
- 650 security exercises were carried out on the assets that the company manages.
- No incident of violation of human rights by an employee of the company, no case of corruption or bribery, nor violation of the corporate Code of Conduct was recorded.
Energean’s full 2022 Sustainability Report is accessible herewhile for the third consecutive year it has received external evaluation and certification from Ernst & Young (Hellas).
