The Sustainability Days are taking place in Baden-Württemberg for the eleventh time this year. The state ministry for the environment, climate and energy sector is in charge. Last year there were over 3,000 campaigns throughout Baden-Württemberg, significantly exceeding the number of around 2,200 campaigns from 2021. Rottweil is also there again.

Rottweil. Whether it’s hydropower, natural history on your own doorstep or a resource-saving circular economy: together with partners from the community, the Tourism and City Marketing Department has put together a free program on ecological topics for the action weekend. The main topic this year is climate protection.

“Every action counts – the motto speaks for itself: The Sustainability Days show how great the commitment of the people in the local communities is,” emphasizes Rottweil’s mayor Dr. Christian Ruf. “The city of Rottweil would like to support this commitment with its own program contributions and show how diverse the contributions to more climate protection and sustainability are in Rottweil.”

Friederike Stolz starts on Friday, September 22nd with a nature tour on the Dissenhorn. Participants can learn about the importance of orchards for ecology and the landscape.

On Saturday, September 23rd, Prof. Dr. Volker Bucher took us to the Lumpenmühle for an hour-long tour of the hydroelectric power plant in the old town. The technical and ecological aspects of generating electricity from hydropower are explained here. The tour with a maximum of 25 participants takes place at 2 p.m.

Albert Schmidt, an employee in the civil engineering department, will present the “Terra Preta” project on Monday, September 25th. Terra Preta is a mixture of green matter and coal. After decomposition, it is brought back into circulation as soil. Around 1,500 cubic meters of leaves and large amounts of green waste from the municipal depot provide the basis for our project throughout the year, in which nutrient-rich soil is produced from the biomass.

In addition, anyone interested can pick up a brochure on the topics of climate protection and sustainability at the tourist information center.

INFO: All tours of the promotional weekend are free and available in advance through the Tourist Information ticket shop www.tourismus-rottweil.de/tickets buchbar.
