Suspicious Package in Westpoort Triggers Grip 1 Response from Police, Fire Brigade, and Ambulance

The police, fire brigade and ambulance responded en masse to an incident on Basisweg in Westpoort. According to a police spokesperson, a suspicious package was found in front of a business premises. A tipster who works in the area says that the police do not allow him and his colleagues to go outside. The building where the package was found has been evacuated.

The EOD is present with a bomb suit and is conducting an investigation in front of the business premises. It is not yet clear whether the suspicious package actually contains an explosive. A large part of the Basisweg has been cordoned off, including the part where the speed limit is 70 kilometers per hour. Traffic is diverted by the police.

Grip 1

The police were already present at the building earlier in the morning to investigate. The Explosives Reconnaissance Team Leader (TEV) was called around 9:20 am, and the Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) and Forensic Investigation were also already present.

About two hours later, it was scaled up to the so-called Grip 1. This means that coordination between the various emergency services is required during the incident.
