Suspicious Package Found in Vught Contained E-Reader, Prompting Evacuations and Massive Emergency Response

The suspicious package that was found on Saturday afternoon at Kleine Gent in Vught appears to contain an e-reader. The e-reader came in a box wrapped with tape and was intended for Sientje. “I didn’t see anything in my mailbox and after half an hour the entire street was cordoned off.”

“I’m ashamed,” says Sientje. “It turned out to be quite a suspicious package, especially because it was wrapped in black tape. No one dared to turn it over to see what the correct address would be.”

The package was also delivered to the wrong address, an empty house. “That meant no one could see that a package had been delivered there that I was missing.”

For this reason, the box was classified as ‘suspicious’ at the end of the afternoon. The police, ambulance and fire brigade then responded en masse. The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service was also called for further investigation, according to a police spokesperson.

As a precaution, two houses were evacuated and the street was cordoned off in a wide area. “Many thanks to all the emergency services who came today and my apologies to all the neighbors who were not allowed to leave their house. A good story with my e-reader.”
