In a written statement forwarded by the Department of Health on Thursday, Dr Arruda says that “Public Health and all experts are monitoring the development of the AstraZeneca vaccine very closely.” If there were any problems with this vaccine, “rest assured that we will take the appropriate action,” he said.

Denmark, Norway and Iceland announced on Thursday that they were suspending the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 “as a precaution” due to fears related to the formation of blood clots, despite reassuring statements the European regulator and the manufacturer.

“I would like to reiterate that all the vaccines offered in Quebec are effective and that the data in the field show an equivalence in the prevention of severe forms of COVID-19. Do not hesitate to receive the vaccine. When your turn comes, it is very important to get yourself vaccinated. This is our best way to put an end to this pandemic, ”said the national director of Public Health of Quebec.

Nicholas Brousseau, of the Directorate of Biological Risks and Occupational Health at the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ), member of the Committee on Immunization of Quebec, said Thursday to Press that “the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the potential risks.”

“It is natural that these events occur and that does not mean that there is a cause and effect relationship” with the vaccine, he said.

“To get a signal, events would have to happen more often in vaccinated people than in non-vaccinated people and we have no evidence at that level,” added Mr. Brousseau.

In scrums on Thursday, opposition parties were questioned about the decision of three European countries to suspend the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine. They all replied that they were relying on the analysis made by Quebec experts.
