Suspended by Twitter, the New York Post account garners 190,000 subscribers

The American media’s Twitter account will have been made inactive for a while by the social network for two weeks, the time to experience a resurgence in popularity.

In all, it will have been made inactive from October 14 to 30. All the while, the Twitter account of New York Post paid the price for the moderation policy of the social network and could no longer distribute articles or information. It was, however, always possible to follow him.

Out of support, provocation or disapproval of Twitter’s “anti-Trump censorship”, nearly 190,000 new subscribers suddenly followed the conservative media’s account, data from the Social Blade analysis tool relayed by the New York Post himself. That is to say 10% more subscribers in a fortnight.

Two week suspension

In mid-October, Twitter, like Facebook, came to censor the sharing of an article from the New York Post accusing Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential candidate, of having aided a Ukrainian gas group, and thus putting the politician in a delicate position. The New York Post had in this case refused to respond to a request from Twitter, which asked him to delete tweets on certain pirated elements.

The conservative newspaper had indeed published emails that were allegedly illegally retrieved from a computer containing messages, photos and personal videos of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

However, this type of content contravenes Twitter rules, on two points in particular: the social network moderates the content linked to the publication of personal data (e-but, phone numbers) but also to pirated elements.

“We do not want to encourage piracy by authorizing the dissemination of documents obtained illegally”, then explained the company, just after having blocked the sharing of the article. However, she decided to change the rules: From now on, pirated content will only be censored if it is shared by the hackers themselves.
