(CRHoy.com).- The National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Care (CNE) asked the pharmaceutical company Pfizer/BioNTech the suspension of shipments of doses during the first half of this yearafter the delivery scheduled for next April 13.
This is due to the result of an analysis carried out on the current inventory of doses against COVID-19 that the country has, therefore, the arrivals will resume under the current contract with the company, starting in June.
“Currently, the country has received 13,027,875 vaccines and applied 10,313,681 doses, so there is available an inventory of 2,714,194 doseswhich makes it possible to cover all the needs for pediatric and adult vaccines in the coming weeks,” the statement said.
As mentioned in the Presidency statement, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) has cwith sufficient doses to continue with the vaccination strategy at the national level, for both first, second and third doses, as well as for pediatric vaccination for children 5 to 12 years old.
“This agreement will allow the new vaccines that enter the country to have an expiration shelf life of 12 months. That is, with a validity greater than the current ones, since until now they have had a term of 9 months, ”he indicates.
As far as this year, the country has received 4,736,130 doses, 1,048,600 of these vaccines are pediatric and 3,687,530 are for people over 12 years of age.
“To date, Costa Rica has received 13,027,875 vaccines between purchase contracts and donations, of which 9,294,085 doses by purchase contract with the companies Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca and the COVAX multilateral mechanism; In addition, 3,733,790 doses have been donated by the governments of Spain, the United States, Canada, France, the Dominican Republic and Austria”, he pointed out.
