The three suspects arrested this month for their possible involvement in a drug robbery at the police station of Rio Canario (Curaçao) will be detained for two more weeks. The trio is suspected of involvement in the theft of 600 kilos of cocaine at the police station in Willemstad, more than three years ago. One of the suspects is a 30-year-old former police officer.
remand
Curacao.nu writes that the examining magistrate has decided that the three suspects will remain in pre-trial detention at least until after the New Year. The suspects are in restraints. Justice does not rule out that more arrests will follow.
The police team, which consists of members of the Curaçao Police Force and the Criminal Investigation Cooperation Team (RST), is investigating the relationship between the three suspects, their involvement in the robbery and drug trafficking.
A total of six suspects have been arrested in the case.
Protest
On October 14, 2018, unknown persons broke into the Rio Canario police station and made off with 600 kilograms of seized cocaine. The assailants forced through two metal doors to gain access to the drugs. Several detectives from the Curaçao police force subsequently explained their work down. They did this in response and in protest against the robbery of the large batch of coke.
Arrests
A year after the drug robbery, two suspects were arrested, including a 30-year-old former police officer. They were subsequently released, but the Public Prosecution Service would not say whether the two are still suspects or whether the arrests made earlier this month are linked to the earlier arrests.
