Terrorist suspect shot dead by the Special Detachment or Densus 88 Anti-terror Police is a doctor who is active in the Hilal Ahmar Society Indonesia (HASI) institution in the Sukoharjo area, Central Java on Wednesday (9/3) night.
The Head of the Operational Assistance Section (Kabagbanops) of the Anti-terror Detachment 88 of the National Police Kombes Aswin Siregar confirmed that the suspect was Doctor Sunardi.
“Yes, that’s true (doctor Sunardi). The explanation will be delivered by the Public Relations Division, yes,” Aswin said when confirmed, Thursday (10/3).
Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the National Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan said that Sunardi was a high-ranking official in the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network.
It is known that the Hilal Ahmar Society was previously included in the list of suspected terrorists and terrorist organizations in Indonesia. The document can also be accessed on the website of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
The UN Security Council (UN Security Council) also stated that HASI is a wing of Jemaah Islamiyah and has been operating since 2011 in Indonesia. In this regard, UNSC said that JI misappropriated charitable funds from the organization in connection with acts of violence and terror. Apart from JI, HASI is also affiliated with the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.
The police said Sunardi was one of the Amirs at JI. Amir is the name for leaders in the JI network. He explained that SU was acting as the deputy for da’wah in the terrorist network.
According to him, SU also has an advisory role in the network.
“The person concerned is an advisor to the emir of JI and also the person in charge of the Hilal Ahmar Society,” said Ramadhan.
It is known that SU was about to be arrested by Densus 88 in the Sukoharjo area, Central Java on Wednesday (9/3) night. He is a local resident who is suspected of being affiliated with a terrorist network.
During the arrest, the police stated that SU resisted and had to be shot.
Ramadhan said the officers had tried to stop the truck driven by the suspect SU. The police got into the car from behind and gave a warning to the suspect to stop.
