Piding / Siegsdorf (digitaldaily):
A suspected smuggler ignored police stop signals on Tuesday morning (February 6, 2024) and sped away from a check. In doing so, he presumably endangered not only other road users, but also his passengers – six Syrians without identification documents, two of whom were in the trunk. After a quarter of an hour he was stopped. The federal police are now investigating under the direction of the Traunstein public prosecutor’s office.
Officials from the Piding border police station wanted to check a car with Polish registration on the A8 shortly before the Neukirchen exit in the direction of Munich on Tuesday morning. The driver of the Ford C-Max ignored the officers’ signals to stop and accelerated at full speed. He is strongly suspected of trying to deceive the police officers pursuing him by flashing his lights several times and of repeatedly changing lanes to prevent overtaking maneuvers. According to current investigations, there was almost a rear-end collision. He is said to have continued his dangerous driving maneuvers to the Traunsteingsdorf junction, where he was stopped around 8 a.m. by another border police patrol. During his arrest, the 30-year-old citizen of the Republic of Moldova is said to have offered considerable resistance and slightly injured two officers. The suspected smuggler also sustained minor injuries during his acts of resistance, which were treated on an outpatient basis in hospital.
In addition to the driver, there were six other men in the vehicle, who said they were Syrian nationals. Two of them were crouched in the trunk of the vehicle. The youngest inmate was a 16-year-old who traveled to Germany without a guardian. According to current knowledge, none of the people identified had documents that entitle them to enter the Federal Republic.
In order to minimize the danger to other road users, the A8 motorway in the direction of Munich had to be closed for a short time by the Traunstein traffic police station.
The 30-year-old was handed over to the responsible federal police station in Freilassing together with the trafficked people. The driver is strongly suspected of smuggling in foreigners under life-threatening, inhumane or degrading treatment. He will also have to answer on strong suspicion of resisting law enforcement officers and endangering road traffic. The further investigations are being conducted under the direction of the Traunstein public prosecutor’s office – a special department for combating cross-border and organized crime based on the “Traunstein model”. The Moldovan will be brought before the judge at the Traunstein District Court on Wednesday.
