Frank James, the man suspected of shooting Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in the New York subway at rush hour, injuring 23, including 10 by gunshot, was placed in pre-trial detention this Thursday, April 14, 2022, accused of ‘to have “spread terror throughout the city” by the prosecutor.
Dressed in a loose khaki shirt, the suspect, a 62-year-old African American arrested the day before in Manhattan, appeared for the first time in federal court in Brooklyn and heard the charges against him, including that of ” terrorist attack” which now puts him at risk of life in prison.
“A premeditated attack”
Il “opened fire on the passengers of a crowded subway train, interrupting their morning journey in a way this city had not seen in over twenty years,” said prosecutor Sara Winik.
“His attack was premeditated, it was carefully planned and it struck terror among the victims and throughout the city,” she added.

In a statement to the press in federal court, one of them, Mia Eisner-Grynberg, warned against any “hasty judgment” of his client, without clearly saying whether he denied being the shooter.
“What we do know is this: yesterday Mr James saw his photo in the news, he called the police to help, he said where he was,” she asserted.
“Often, the first information from the press and the police in these kinds of cases is inaccurate”, she added, recalling that her client was entitled to a ” fair trial “.
