Suspected Rabies, Dog Killed, Residents Taken to Hospital

balitribune.co.id | SingarajaThe silence of Nyepi was broken when a dog with a vicious behavior suddenly attacked residents who were relaxing enjoying the atmosphere of Nyepi in the Coastal area of Pengastulan Village, Seririt District. The dog attacked three residents and left quite deep bite marks on the residents’ bodies. Some were bitten on the thighs, legs and hands. By residents, the dog suspected of having rabies was then killed to prevent other residents from being bitten.

The three residents who were bitten were then taken to Tangguwisia Hospital, Seririt District to get the anti-rabies vaccine (VAR). Official village and customary village officials and escorted by pecalang, escorted the three residents to the hospital to get VAR.

The Perbekel or Pengastulan Village Head Putu Widyasmita when confirmed via telephone confirmed that his residents were bitten by dogs. The dog was suspected of having rabies, so residents were immediately taken to a pocket house for treatment and VAR.

“Three residents who were bitten by a dog suspected of having rabies have been taken to the hospital. Because it’s still Nyepi, we coordinate with pecalang to take them to the hospital,” said Mekel Widy, Thursday (3/3).

For handling, Widyasmita admitted that he had coordinated with the relevant agencies and veterinarians for further treatment. This includes dealing with stray dogs that roam the village a lot.

“We ask residents to be careful because it is suspected that the dog that bit the resident was infected with rabies. Meanwhile, we are coordinating with the relevant agencies for handling stray dogs,” he added.

Avoiding dog bites from spreading, Widyasmita appealed to his residents not to let their pet dogs stray. If possible, the dog is always on a leash and has his health checked regularly, including giving anti-rabies injections.

“For residents who have dogs to tie them up so they don’t roam the streets, if necessary, their dog’s health is controlled, especially given anti-rabies injections,” said Widyasmita.
