Suspected Monkey Pox Case in Garut Regency – Health Update

Garut (ANTARA) – The Garut Regency Health Service (Dinkes), West Java, said that there was an adult man who was suspected of being infected with monkey pox and was undergoing medical treatment at the hospital for observation and laboratory tests so that he could determine whether he was positive or not infected with the disease.

“There is now one (suspected) monkey pox,” said Head of the Garut Regency Health Office, Leli Yuliani, to journalists in Garut, Monday.

He said that the patient suspected of being infected with monkey pox had received special medical treatment in the isolation room at the Dr Slamet Garut Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

The patient’s condition, he said, showed symptoms similar to contracting monkey pox, including fever, then swollen lymph nodes, and smallpox as usual.

“The symptoms are in that direction, yes, there is a fever at the beginning, then suddenly on the fourth day something like smallpox appears,” he said.

He said that the suspected patient is around 30 years old and currently the hospital medical team is still monitoring his progress, and samples are being tested at the Ministry of Health Laboratory.

He said the laboratory results had not yet been received, it was estimated that the laboratory results would only come out in about a week.

“Yes, it has been done, we’ll see the results later. This is also just a suspicion, yes, there are no results yet,” said Leli.

He added that the threat of a monkey pox outbreak is that the symptoms are almost the same as ordinary smallpox, the only difference is that the patient’s lymph nodes are swollen.

Monkey pox, he said, is a disease that was originally transmitted from animals, but now it is transmitted from human to human, so if someone has smallpox, don’t come into direct or physical contact.

He appealed to the public to immediately see a doctor or the nearest health service facility when they complain of an illness such as monkey pox so that it can be treated as quickly as possible by medical personnel.

“Actually, any illness requires immediate examination, yes, at the nearest health facility,” he said.*
