Suspected knife attacks in Amsterdam Pijp did not receive medication

The man who is suspected of stabbing five random people in the Amsterdam neighborhood De Pijp had asked for medication for his psychological complaints on the day of the incident. He did not receive it for unclear reasons, his lawyer said today at the preliminary session of his lawsuit.

A 64-year-old man died in the stabbing incident last May. Four others were injured.

Voices in his head

Thirty-year-old Mustapha S. was psychotic, according to his lawyer, and heard voices in his head. He taped off his glasses because he was under the illusion that people were watching,” writes NH News. The doctor referred him to the emergency department. There a psychotic disorder was diagnosed, but there would have been no chance of aggression. He was prescribed medication.

S. then left for Egypt for a few weeks. When he returned, his condition had worsened and the medication he was on was gone. His mother called the mental health institution in a panic and was told that his file had been closed and that S. had to go to his GP.

On the day of the stabbing incident, S. asked his doctor for medication, but did not receive it. He then attempted suicide before going to De Pijp in the evening and stabbing five people.

New suicide attempt

According to his lawyer, S. cannot remember anything about the incident. He is said to have recently attempted to take his own life again. S. is being examined by a psychologist and psychiatrist and the results are expected at the end of September, reports AT5.

The substantive hearing of the case will start on November 4.
