The six suspects in the erroneous murder of Nijmegen’s handyman Mehmet Kiliçsoy invoke their right to remain silent or claim they have nothing to do with the case. This became evident on Monday during the first day of session at the Rotterdam court.
Kiliçsoy (49) was shot in the head and upper body on 6 July 2020 on the Thorbeckeplein in Gelderse Beuningen in the morning around 8:30 am. Two masked men opened fire from a stolen white Volkswagen Transporter. The car was revealed to have been stolen from the Nassaukade in Amsterdam in July and was allegedly placed first in Beuningen.
According to the prosecutor, everything indicates that it was a wrong murder, because the police could not find any reason.
None of the six suspects confirm that they were in Beuningen on or before the murder. They also kept quiet about the questions about their phones, as well as the use of rental cars that justice linked to the wrong murder.
The so-called observers would sit in a white VW Up. According to a witness, the car passed the scene of the murder and the occupants looked at the victim on time. An image of this car was found on a phone seized from suspect Jomaido D. (29).
Pubic hair and glove marks of suspects in the car
From Jurviën M. (21) a pubic hair with her DNA was found in the driver’s seat of the VW Transporter. In the vehicle, police also found DNA on Jermaine M.’s so-called glove marks (32). Last summer, he told police he helped set up a gym. He was silent again in court.
Telephone numbers which, according to the prosecutor, may be linked to some suspects, relayed cell towers from Amsterdam to Beuningen on and around the liquidation day. These numbers may also be partly linked to the attempted liquidation of a chalet park in Tienhoven in Utrecht on 4 June 2020. One man was injured.
The court allocates several days for the criminal trial, in which a total of eight suspects are on trial. On Friday, Kiliçsoy’s wife, daughter and sister will use their right to speak. Sentencing requests are expected on October 31st.
