In Bruck an der Glocknerstraße (Pinzgau), an internationally wanted million-dollar suspected fraudster was caught over the weekend. This is confirmed by the Salzburg police. The Ukrainian is accused of loan fraud with more than six million euros in damages.
The 34-year-old Ukrainian showed up for a routine vehicle check on Pinzgauer Straße (B311) on Saturday. He was in the passenger seat of the car with two other adults and a child.
While checking personal data, police officers noticed that the Ukrainian had been engaged in an international manhunt under an Interpol arrest warrant since 3 November. He was arrested by order of the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office and transferred to the Salzburg prison in Puch-Urstein (Tennengau).
Enticed loan of six million euros
According to the arrest warrant, the 34-year-old Ukrainian lured his victims into loans totaling more than six million euros in his home country in July and August 2021. The Salzburg prosecutor’s office could not provide details at the request of the ORF on Sunday. However, the prosecution has requested remand for the 34-year-old. Now the court will decide.
It is not yet clear if and when the man will be extradited to Ukraine: before that, the court needs more detailed documentation on the allegations of alleged fraud involving millions. It also needs to be clarified whether the man can expect a fair trial in his country of origin. For the time being he remains in prison in Puch-Urstein.
