Karlsruhe (dpa) – The Federal Prosecutor’s Office had a German political scientist arrested for alleged espionage for China.
The Karlsruhe authority announced that charges against him had already been brought against him in May at the Munich Higher Regional Court. The man is said to have provided the Chinese secret service with regular information for almost a decade, from 2010 to 2019 – before or after state visits or multinational conferences and also on current issues.
The man, who has been running an internationally significant think tank since 2001, had the material from his many high-ranking political contacts.
The arrested person should be brought before the State Security Senate of the OLG in Munich during the day, as it was said. There it will be decided whether he will be taken into custody.
