Suspected deadly attack Japanese animation studio officially arrested | NOW

The man suspected of setting fire to an animation studio in Kyoto, Japan, was officially arrested on Wednesday by the Japanese police.

36 people died in the fire. The suspect himself also suffered such serious injuries that the police could not immediately arrest him. The man spent ten months in the hospital and is now being taken to the police station for further questioning.

The man is said to have confessed to the fire in the hospital. The suspect entered the building of the Kyoto Animation Co. studio, threw around flammable liquid and then set the building on fire.

It is the most deadly fire in Japan in nearly twenty years. In addition to the 36 people who died, dozens of people were injured.

Suspect previously treated for mental illness

The suspect has been treated for an unnamed person in the past mental illness. He has also been detained for robbing a supermarket.

The man is said to have set the studio on fire thinking he was being plagiarized. He would have shouted “you’re going to die” just before lighting the fire.
