Suspect Wanted in Shooting of 3-Year-Old Girl Outside Brooklyn Daycare – NBC New York

A 3-year-old girl received shot Friday night as her father was picking her up from a daycare center in BrooklynNew York City Police said.

The incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. Riverdale Avenue in Brownsville, according to authorities. The 28-year-old father and his daughter were leaving a nursery when the shots were heard and the little girl was injured.

The uniformed officers helped bandage the girl’s shoulder gunshot wound before rushing her to the hospital. Hospital Brookdale in his squad car, New York City Police Department Chief Kenneth Corey said at a news conference later that day.

The girl was treated and stabilized at the hospital.

Surveillance video from across the street shows the moment of the shooting in Brooklyn. New York City Police officials confirmed they are searching for a suspect who opened fire outside the scene and have an image of him captured on security camera.

That man fled in a white 4-door BMW sedan driven by another person, police said Saturday. The uniformed officer posted an image of the vehicle and a description of the alleged gunman, who was wearing a black mask, a black hooded sweater with “waves” printed on the back, and black jeans. No arrests have been made yet.

“Someone knows him. Help us catch him before he shoots another kid,” Corey said.

A nearby woman said she heard the bullets start to ring out.

“I hear two shots and I see sparks, and then I run, because I don’t know which way it’s coming from. Then I hear three more and we see the girl crying and the father holding the little girl, and I see the blood coming from the shoulder,” said witness Mavis Warner.

Police do not know who the gunman shot, but said it was not the young victim’s father.

During the press conference following the shooting, Corey issued an emotional appeal to the community.

“When do we come together as a community and as a city and say enough is enough?” said the New York City Police officer. “An 11-month-old boy was shot two months ago. Last week, a 7-year-old boy was shot. And tonight, a 3-year-old girl leaving daycare with her dad was shot in broad daylight. . Enough is enough”.
