NEW YORK – New York City Police are searching for a man accused of allegedly dragging a tourist down the sidewalk while trying to steal her purse in late June.
The 31-year-old woman from Russia and her friend were walking on Saturday, June 26, on the 236 of West 15th Street in Chelsea when the suspect grabbed the tourist and threw her against a scaffold post, according to police. The man then allegedly dragged the victim down the sidewalk in an attempt to steal her purse.
Before fleeing, he punched her in the face of the woman’s friend, a 33-year-old girl.
The victims suffered severe lacerations and bruises, police said. They were transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
No arrests have been made and police released images of the suspect on Tuesday in hopes of identifying the man. Anyone with information can confidentially call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
