Suspect someone injected drugs into attendees at Texas concert before deadly avalanche

The authorities of Houston (Texas, USA) are investigating the circumstances that caused the avalanche that ended up killing 8 people in the middle of the concert of rapper Travis Scott. One of the hypotheses considered by the authorities is the possibility that someone will start injecting drugs to concert goers and that sparked the deadly stampede, a theory mentioned Saturday by Houston Police Chief Troy Finner.

As Finner indicated at a press conference, there was multiple opioid overdoses at the concert, including that of a security agent who tried to immobilize someone and received a “puncture” in the neck.

This agent lost consciousness and, to regain it, he had to receive a drug called Naloxona, which serves to quickly reverse an opioid overdose, Finner explained.

For his part, the Houston fire chief, Sam Peña, has assured that the medical personnel who were at the concert had to give “multiple” doses of Naloxone, but did not give an exact number.

According to Finner, the investigation is criminal in nature and the homicide and narcotics units from the Houston Police Department.

The event occurred around 9.15pm on Friday (3.15am on Saturday, Spanish peninsular time), when some 50,000 people they flocked to the open air to enjoy rapper Travis Scott’s concert.

Suddenly, panic broke out and the crowd began to push in the direction of the stage, while fights between the assistants took place and some lost the knowledge.

Another point that is being examined, as indicated by Lina Hidalgo, an administrative judge for Harris County – where Houston is located – are the security plans designed by the organizers of the Astroworld festival, where this concert was framed. “Those plans were perhaps not adequate or perhaps they were good, but they were not followed,” he said.

Both the security and medical attention of the event were carried out by a third company contracted by Astroworld, although the police and fire department Houston were assisting.

Specifically, in the concert venue there were 528 agents from the Houston Police Department and 755 officers from private security companies, Finner reported, asking for citizen collaboration to speed up the investigations.
