NEW YORK – A 33-year-old man failed to flee after he allegedly slapped a child in Central Park on Saturday. This after being held by members of the minor’s family and other passers-by so that he would not escape.
According to the New York City Police, the suspect attacked the 7-year-old for no reason when he was walking with his family in the park in the area of Columbus Circle. The force of the blow reportedly knocked the boy to the ground.
The NY Post reported that family members and other bystanders helped detain the suspect, who was identified by authorities as Kevin Cadelina, 33, of Jersey City, and was detained until police officers arrived.
Cadelina was arrested shortly thereafter and faces charges of assault and acting injurious to a child.
Contact information for his attorney was not immediately known.
The boy was reportedly not seriously injured.
The case remains under investigation.
