Suspect of threatening a group of people with a stun gun in Washington Square Park arrested – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Authorities arrested a man for allegedly threatening a group of people with a stun gun covered as a flashlight Friday night in Washington Square Park, police announced.

According to the New York City Police, the events occurred around midnight when the 42-year-old suspect began moving the stun gun near the group of people who were gathered inside the well-known Manhattan park. In addition, he also had a long knife under his position, authorities added.

The moment caused panic and as people tried to run from the scene, a 43-year-old woman was injured when she collided with the others. The woman was treated at the scene by officers and transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. No one else was injured.

The suspect, 42-year-old Jason McDermott, was arrested without incident and the weapons were recovered by authorities. McDermott was charged with threatening danger, endangering others, and criminal possession of a weapon.

It is unknown what caused the suspect’s behavior.

This is a case under investigation.
