United States authorities placed in custody a man suspected of having murdered a young Cuban woman in the city of Federal Heights, Colorado, after he was discovered and detained in Mexican territory.
The subject was identified as Adrián Carracedo Vega, 35 years old, whose arrest was the result of an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Carracedo is accused of murder to the young Cuban Sachely Díaz, 20 years oldwhose body was found at the end of 2023.
Months ago, North American authorities issued an arrest warrant for Carracedo Vega in which they clarified that he may have escaped to the southern border with the intention of hiding in Mexican territory.
Now, after four months, the subject was intercepted in the city of Tapachula, in the border state of Chiapas.
The young woman, originally from Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, had been in the United States for a little over a year, and was found seriously injured on December 30, 2023 inside her home.
Authorities arrived at the scene, located in the 1700 block of West 85th Avenue in Federal Heights, and took Díaz to a nearby hospital. However, she died shortly after being transferred.
According to the authorities’ report, Carracedo Vega had a romantic relationship with the victim, and was identified as the main suspect for stabbing her.
Through a statement, the authorities offered up to a $2,000 reward for information that would help them locate him, something that could be done anonymously.
“You can remain anonymous and earn up to two thousand dollars ($2,000). Can you help solve this crime? Call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers (720) 913-7867 – (720) 913-STOP (7867),” stated the police statement shared in January.
Díaz’s family points out that she met the subject through the Internet when she was still residing on the Island. The man would have helped her leave the country, starting a relationship that ended shortly after due to a pattern of domestic violence.
