Suspect in Tupac Shakur Murder Case: Alleged Order to Shoot and Reopen Investigation

Davis, now 60, was in the white Cadillac from which the shooting occurred at the time of the murder of the famous American rapper in 1996. In addition to Davis, there were three others in the car at the time, all of whom died.

Order to shoot

Many fans of the deceased rapper will have at least been surprised when the American justice department announced yesterday that it had arrested a suspect. Davis is no stranger, he was the leader of the infamous South Side Compton Crips gang. By the way, Davis is suspected of murder, but the judiciary does not think he actually committed the murder.

That’s how it is. In the American state of Nevada, which includes Las Vegas, he can also be convicted of murder because prosecutors assume that Davis was in charge and gave the order to shoot.

According to the American news channel CBS is Davis part of a family with 12 children. He lived in his youth in Compton, a city in California where many rappers and basketball players come from, but also a lot of crime and rival gangs. In his own book Compton Street Legend, Davis writes that this was not the case in his youth.

His mother died of colon cancer when he was a teenager. He also lost two brothers, one to cancer and the other shot to death on the street in Compton. He is said to have become involved in criminal activities at a young age. He writes that he started dealing drugs and that he liked how much money he earned from it.

Jail

In 1985, this earned him a prison sentence of four years. In his own words, that time in prison did not improve him, but only made him a bigger criminal.

In 2010, Davis already talked to the police about Tupac’s murder. At that time, he was charged again with drug-related activities and was willing to talk in exchange for a reduced sentence.

The police investigation was reopened in 2018. Earlier this year, police searched Davis’ home. Computers, hard drives and a telephone, among other things, were seized.

“We strongly suspect that he is responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur and that he will be found guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon,” the prosecutor said yesterday.

Possibly out of revenge

Police assume that Tupac was shot dead in revenge, but the exact reason has never been clarified.
