The suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the British toddler who disappeared from a Portuguese resort 13 years ago, suffered two broken ribs in an incident in a German court. The suspect, Christian B., was injured while on his way to a hearing about a drug offense.
The court spokeswoman Jessica Knab-Henrichs said B. was treated briefly in the hospital and then returned to the court where the hearing was held.
The man is currently serving a 21-month prison sentence in Kiel for a drug offense. That sentence ends on January 7. Should the judge decide in his favor, the 43-year-old suspect is not expected to be released immediately. In that case, remand will likely go into effect pending trial in a rape case, the court spokesman said. The man allegedly raped a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2005 – about a year and a half before Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
At the beginning of June, German federal police announced that they were investigating whether the man could be linked to the disappearance case of the three-year-old British toddler, who disappeared from her bed 13 years ago in a holiday resort in Praia Da Luz.
