Suspect in Maddie McCann case, acquitted in another trial – Diario La Página –

The main suspect in the ‘Maddie case’, who is serving a sentence in a German prison for other crimes, could be released in September 2025, after being acquitted this Tuesday of three counts of rape and two of child sexual abuse.

A court in Braunschweig (central Germany) declared Christian B. not guilty in a trial that is not related to the disappearance of the girl Madeleine McCann, and in which several attacks that the German allegedly committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.

The magistrates determined that there was not enough evidence to incriminate Christian B., while the prosecution – which had already announced in advance that it would appeal the sentence in the event of an acquittal – demanded 15 years in prison.

The prosecution accused him of having stalked several children and masturbating in front of them, as well as of having raped a young Irish woman at knifepoint after entering her apartment and of other sexual assaults of which there is only evidence in some tapes of video that was never found.

The Irish victim came to testify as part of the trial last May, but since the man who raped her had his face covered with a mask, an unequivocal identification of the perpetrator was not possible.

Christian B. serving time for rape
At the moment, Christian B. is already serving a seven-year prison sentence for the rape of an American woman in 2005, also in the south of Portugal, but, unless the prosecution’s appeal is successful, he will be released in less than of one year.

In 2020, the Braunschweig prosecutor’s office announced that Christian B. is suspected of having kidnapped and murdered little Madeleine McCann, but has not yet formally filed an accusation.

The disappearance of the British girl from the tourist apartment she occupied with her family in the Portuguese Algarve in 2007 constitutes one of the most media and investigated cases of this type of all time.

Brücker was in the vicinity when the girl disappeared, according to the signal from his mobile phone, and there is a witness who claims that the suspect confessed to the murder of the little girl, but at the moment there is not enough evidence to formally accuse him.
