Suspect charged with shooting in bus that injured two passengers in NYC – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Queens prosecutors indicted a man shooting into a city bus this week, a shooting that injured two passengers.

Melvin Adams, 43, of the Bronx, faces assault and weapons charges in Thursday’s shooting in the Jamaica section of Queens.

It was not immediately clear if he had a defense attorney who could comment on the charges.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said the shooting shattered the windshield of the Q8 bus near the intersection of Jamaica Avenue Y 148th Street.

Adams allegedly had a “heated exchange of words” with a stranger before reaching into a backpack, pulling out a pistol and firing three rounds at the man.

However, he ended up hitting a 66-year-old bus passenger in the shoulder and a 20-year-old passenger in the hand, according to prosecutors.

The backpack Adams was carrying contained an additional 15 rounds of ammunition, authorities said. Another eleven rounds remained in the magazine of the .40 caliber pistol.

“We cannot live in a world where a small dispute on the street between strangers ends with innocent people being shot on a city bus,” Katz said in a press release.
