Suspect attacks McDonald’s in Manhattan with Ax – NBC New York

NEW YORK – A 31-year-old man from the Bronx was arrested for pulling an ax from his backpack during an argument with three other men at a McDonald’s on the Lower East Side, police said Sunday.

It was not clear what sparked the discussion, but Michael Placios would have pulled out the ax and threatened the men with it at the fast food restaurant in Via Delance around 2:30 on a Friday.

No one was injured, but the uniformed officer added that there was damage to the property. They also claimed to have found another knife in Placios’ backpack.

He is charged with three counts of threats, criminal damage and criminal possession of a weapon. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.

McDonald’s has released a statement saying that the safety of its customers and workers is always the top priority.

“We are shocked by these acts of violence committed in our restaurant and are cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation,” said Paul Hendel, owner and operator of the McDonald’s restaurant.
