Suspect arrested in terrifying attempted rape in a Manhattan subway – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – A 39-year-old homeless man was arrested for allegedly robbing a 40-year-old woman on a C-line train in Manhattan, then hitting her against the train seats and choking her unconscious before attempting to rape her earlier in August, police said.

Sinke Zewge faces charges of attempted rape, robbery, assault, illegal imprisonment and criminal obstruction of breathing for the attack on the train that occurred on August 3, around 10:00 pm, near the station 168th Street-Broadway in Upper Manhattan.

The suspect dragged the woman onto the subway platform when the train stopped at 168th Street and fled the area. The woman was evaluated on the spot.

Zewge was arrested on Monday. It was not clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the allegations against him.
