Suspect Arrested in Murder of 57-Year-Old Woman in Styrian District

The police are investigating in the Styrian district of Murtal. A suspect was arrested. The couple probably got into an argument, a family member witnessed it.

A 57-year-old woman was found dead on Tuesday afternoon in front of an apartment building in Pöls-Oberkurzheim, Upper Styria (Murtal district). A police patrol went to the address after an emergency call from a relative because there had apparently been an argument between a couple. When the police arrived, the woman was already dead. A 61-year-old man was arrested at the scene without resistance, according to the Styria State Police Department.

The couple probably got into an argument in the afternoon when a family member was visiting them. It was this relative who called the emergency number at around 5:20 p.m. and informed the police. However, when a patrol arrived, it was too late for the 57-year-old: she was lying dead in front of the apartment building after the argument had apparently moved outside the apartment. Obvious signs of violence were discovered on her body. Her husband was arrested by the police on site and was temporarily detained at a police station on Tuesday evening.

Forensics at the crime scene

The Styrian State Criminal Police Office, Niklasdorf branch, took over the investigation. The background was still unclear for the time being, but the investigation is being carried out on suspicion of murder. The forensics team started work that evening and will continue to work at the crime scene throughout the night. In addition, the first surveys are to be carried out, said police spokesman Markus Lamb. According to initial information, the couple lived together in the apartment and their relative often visited them.

There was currently no information about a murder weapon, any previous convictions of the suspect or possible observations from witnesses. (APA)
